These creatures are the product of Elder Thing genetic engineering & the raw fury of Carcosa. These creatures were originally used in engineering projects throughout the Elder Things worlds. They came into disuse with the perfection of the Shaggoth. They  saw a rebirth in popularity during the rebellion of the Shaggoths & have remained as a part of the arsenal of these alien fiends ever since.
Ntaquatia
The horde are a multi purpose creature that can be directed at a great many tasks from combat to engineering. They have a sort of group mind collective engineered into them by their masters. They will attack humans on prinicpal seeing them as a food source & pest animal. They're claws do 1d3 points of damage & their jaws 1d4 damage with a wicked bite from their serrated mandibles.
When these creatures are found in Elder Thing colonies there will be no Shaggoths present. These two species do not get along at all.
The man sized insects are under the constant gaze of the Things & may be in storage or hibernation chambers where they may sleep within a deathless sleep for thousands of years. They have been known to awaken on a pre programmed schedule only to seek out the nearest human settlements. They attack & subdue the populace which is then used as hosts for a new generation of the monsters.
There are at least five varieties of these creatures each suited for different rolls by the by design of the Elder Things. There are those scientists who speculate that the creation of this race has some deep political agenda on the part of the Elder Things. Such matters are mere conjecture for trying to assign any human motives to such alien monsters is truly fruitless. There are at least 12 star systems where these monsters have been found!

The final type of these creatures are the Ntaquatia proper. They are a triple hit dice monster who ravage worlds with impunity. The Elder Things send these monsters out as weapons of mass destruction laying waste to entire worlds where & when they are needed. These creatures are kept in a state of suspension until the moment then simply activated when they spring into action. These monsters have a hune (an organ capable of creating a space time warp allowing the monsters to enter hyperspace & warp to their destination. These monsters also possess an acidic breath weapon capable of dealing 1d4 points of damage per round to a range of 40 yards or so.
